Steven Ogburn (b. 1957, New York), better known as BLADE, is a famed first-generation graffiti artist and proud owner of the title “King of Graffiti.” Famous for tagging entire train cars which gave him the second name “King of Trains,” BLADE was one of the most prolific street artists of his generation creating over five thousand pieces throughout the New York City in a decade between 1972 and 1982. BLADE developed his own personal style composed of characters, letters, colors and abstract imagery. In 1980, he began using the trains for his more conceptual works; most notably, his Walking Letters car. In 1984, after his work was displayed in Amsterdam, he began to move away from cars in favor of canvas.
