Shepard Fairey, born Frank Shepard Fairey on February 15, 1970, is a prominent American contemporary street artist, graphic designer, activist, illustrator, and founder of OBEY Clothing. He emerged from the skateboarding scene, which heavily influenced his artistic development and DIY ethos. While attending the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Fairey began his "Andre the Giant Has a Posse" sticker campaign, which later evolved into the OBEY GIANT art campaign. This campaign explored phenomenology and the questioning of one's surroundings and relationship to their environment, aiming to provoke curiosity and thought.
